Bo the Snake Wrangler in Calabasas

Massive Rattlesnake captured and relocated

After hearing some complaints about a rattlesnake sighting from one of my clients, we sent Bo the snake wrangler over to have a look. What he found, was a pregnant, 15 year old female Pacific Rattlesnake.

With knee high leather boots and snake capturing gear, Bo Slyapich showed up ready to wrangle. He located the 4 foot snake almost immediately and provided education throughout the process.

“We are getting some big ones,” Slyapich yelled. “We got a lot of rain this year. So more rain means more seeds and more seeds means more rodents. Mom’s like this could have up to 20 babies,” he exclaimed.

Although rattlesnakes are not considered aggressive, they will strike when provoked. Naturally, if you get too close to them or try to hurt them, they will strike. But, you may simply stumble upon the snake and scare it into striking. In other words, sometimes we have no control over it. That’s why it’s best to have the snake properly relocated if it’s living near your home. Although the snake will likely cause no problems, it’s safer to have someone like Bo take care of the issue before someone gets bit.

Anthony Hendrix at Bellagio Calabasas

Slow speakin’ Hendrix tells all

Anthony Hendrix, an affable guard at the Bellagio gate tower has proved himself a resident favorite. Working at this tower for 14 years, last December, the beloved guard gate was let go due to undisclosed reasons.

“I can’t talk about that,” said the tall, slender Hendrix. “That was part of the reason I got back here. I had to sign paper work that I wouldn’t say nothing about the situation.”

The only thing Hendrix would reveal was that “about 95% of the community rallied,” he commented slowly. “The longer it took, the more people found out what happened and the community got involved. After a bunch of meetings and arguing, they finally gave in,” he grinned.

Now, Hendrix is back in full force and the majority of the residents love his work, he explained. “I do my job, I don’t mess around,” he said seriously. “Everybody just likes the way I do my stuff.”

Working from 4pm – 12am 5 days a week, Hendrix says he’s busy most of the time. In the late hours of his shift he usually flips on his television to watch a number of crime shows.

Anthony, when not at work, is likely found in his downtown Hollywood studio. Wailing on his Strata Casta or chilling out to James Brown or other funkadelic masters, Hendrix is also considered a ‘delirious priest’ by his friends. He’s also the cousin of Jimi Hendrix, whom he knew when he was a boy.

“He [Jimi] is not the person everyone thought her was,” he commented. “[He] was very quiet. Nice. And always thinking,” he smiled cunningly.

“And he wasn’t no drug attic,” he boomed. “He was just like anyone else back then.”

And anybody like today, perhaps. Regardless, Anthony is happy to back at the gate, “ready to serve his residents,” as he said. Next time you pull up to Bellagio in Calabasas, throw old Raymond a shout. He’ll appreciate it. It’s the residents that make his job rewarding.

The Ojai Music Festival, is an annual festival of performances by some of the world’s top musicians and composers, and occurs on the first weekend after Memorial Day. Notable appearances include Igor Stravinsky, Aaron Copland, Esa-Pekka Salonen and Pierre Boulez, who was festival director in 2003.

For those looking for more adventure, easy to strenuous hiking trails abound. You’ll find creeks, waterholes and fishing just another 30 minutes into the mountains. You can fish for bass and even trout during the late winter and early spring months.

The weather is getting just perfect this time of year, with highs in upper 70’s and low 80’s. It’s a great time to take off for a few days and enjoy Ojai.

Calabasas Waterpark?

Seriously?

By: Jeff Biebuyck calabasas water park

Take the 2 most opposite ideas and you may conjure up something close to, “Calabasas” and “Waterpark.” Well, don’t look now but it seems that the overwhelming oxymoron will soon make it’s home in cozy Calabasas. $8 Million later and we will attract families from all over to the current Juan Bautista De Anza Park, at the intersection of Las Virgenes Road and Lost Hills Road.

The proposal is to build a year round pool, a lazy river, spray-water playground, a large slide and a number of other structures ranging from
a snack shop to locker rooms.

Homeowners should take a trifle of comfort in the fact that officials say that they will hold community outreach meetings to address issues that will likely arise. Traffic congestion, noise, lighting, security and other problems associated with a high usage facility are just some of the problems.

As your local realtor, I will keep you updated on all the latest happenings. Check with me if you’re concerned.
